mail mail mail! Process

Today I and the Creative Media group carried on contacting our charities and organizations via email. I had trouble of not knowing what to write and reply back to my previous email.

My tutor Paul gave me an organisation based in Lewisham, it’s an organisation called Leaving Care Service which helps mentoring young teenagers who feels that they are in need for someone to care for.
They are currently doing an event to raise an awareness to support the campaign. I chose to support this organization and wanted to also help promote this event too many people.

I emailed the people that are doing the event, but I had problems on not knowing what to say because I was told the last minute what the organization was about.
I instead ask my Tutor to dictate some sentences for me to write on my email

Hello, my name is In Hoang and I am a student at Southwark College studying a Creative and Media Course. The unit that we are focusing on this term is called Interaction, which involves working with local charities and organisations.

It was brought to my attention by my teacher that you have an event coming up to celebrate your mentoring project. There are a number of skills I can offer you to support this event and would like to arrange a meeting to discuss this further at your convenience.

You can contact me on: in_hoang@hotmail.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours Sincerely

In Hoang

For my previous email for Youth Music, I also had a problem on vocabulary and sentence structure I instead got help from my Tutor

Thank you for replying to my email.

I am interested in helping to raise awareness and the profile of Youth Music through putting on an event, making a short film, designing a work shop for schools or any creative initiative that you are currently perusing.

I hope this makes it clearer.

Thanks.

In Hoang

I then started to email my 3rd community which is the Vietnamese/Chinese community helping elders age 55+ have a better life style as well as teaching young children how to read and write.

I was looking through the website and the only contact detail I had of them was their phone number. I’m a person who doesn’t like talking on the phone which can be a problem for me to talk to the community service. I planned out what I am going to say because I know many Chinese people hate getting pranked on the phone, I was afraid that they might think my phone call is a prank as well. I had second thoughts of talking to them in Chinese but that would cause a problem for me as well since it’s hard to speak something formal in Chinese to someone that you don’t know. I carried on looking at the website and googling up the community.
I then managed to find their email address and have decided to email them instead. But I also had another problem in emailing them because I couldn’t find the Chinese character, instead I went on to face book to get one of my other Chinese friends to help me write instead.

Sending my first email to local Charity

Today i and the Creative and Media Class had to finish some work experience paperwork for "SHOW", and had to contact our local charity about arranging a meeting. We all had to write an email to the charity we chose to work with but we all had difficulties using grammer and making it sound professional.

It took us quite a while to send the email because our tutor kept on nagging us on whats right and whats wrong .

Hello, my name is In Hoang and I am a student at Southwark College studying a Creative and Media Course. The unit that we are focusing on this term is called Interaction, which involves working with local charities and organisations.

I have chosen to work with Youth Music Organisation, because I am interested in helping to support young people age 0-18 years old, to develop new skills and talent through music and help them lead to a success in the future.

If possible, can we arrange a meeting to discuss this further.

A Video for campaign

For my interactive unit, i chose to do a organisation based on youth music i chose this organisation because i had many past music experience before.
As part of the unit, i wanted to help the organisation by helping them to promote a video of getting people involved.
Idea : It would be set in a public transport e.g. Bus, tram, train. A typical student is going college listening to his ipod, whilst feeling the music he plays a random beat. A little toddler looks and stares at him with his dummy on he then carries on playing the guys beat and creates his own one by using his baby shaker. This beat then travels around the whole carriage - everyone gets involved When he takes out his headphones the whole atmosphere then stops and everything is back to normal he shrugs then puts his headphone back on and got off his stop.

Tate Modern 15/1/09

Me and the creative group went to the V&A and looked at paintings that related to organisations and campaigns. The first painting we looked at were Ellen Gallaghers work.

This is an image of a pirate, having weird thoughts coming out from the bubble background, Ellen Gallagher was inspired by the "Slave Trade" so she chose to draw this image that reminded her of the trade.
Slave trade started in the 16th - 17th century, where many african slaves was transported from West Africa and Central Africa to Brazil. Also many slaves was kidnapped by the Europeans and States and was taken to be sold to rich owners.
Many families got separated, even children under 5 years had to work and to be slaved at their owners home.
When i saw this image, i thought it was quite disturbing to look at. When i read the caption of the painting i was really interested that this was related to Slave Trade. The image of the pirate reminds me of the Owner and the one who started the slave trade ,the lines in the side foreground reminds me of the map on how all the slaves got transported from one country to the other.

This is the 2nd image me and the group had to sketch and it is an image of a woman crying, her tear dropping fallen, inside the tear drop their is an image of a london teenage "Stephen Lawrence". This image is suppose to be a remembrance of him , he was murdered in the past because of racism.
Caption : " In each of the tears shed by the woman in the painting is a collaged image of Stephen Lawrence;s face while the word's R.I.P Stephen Lawrence are just discernible beneath the layers of paint".

This was the 3rd piece we looked at, it is a installation collarge piece of used soap stacked up together in one line. MiroSlaw Balka was the one who created this idea because she wants to tell the audience about people not thinking clear enough. Although, soap is clean and it makes you look fresh after bath the cureator is trying to commununicate to the audience that soup that be dirty aswell because its used by alot of human beings. When i first saw this piece i didnt realised that it was a stack of soaps, because of it was attached together it looked like a string of sweets in a distance.

This is the 4th piece we looked at of a storage box, at first i didnt have a clue why the cureator did this piece but when i red the caption i understood what the box symbolises. It was for those illegal imigrants that got transported from one country to the other.

This is the 5th piece I looked at it is an image of a womans body in a globe, when i saw this image it reminded me of Religion and Wealth.
For Religion : this reminds me of Christianity, the globe symbolises men whilst the woman represents the earth. God created men first therefore they more powerful than woman.
For Wealth : the woman thats inside the globe has a body full of colour and the other half black and white. This reminds me of Wealth because of Poverty, this piece is trying to tell the audience that int this world there is no such thing as rich but poor itself some part of the countries have no homes and are living in poverty.

This was the last piece i looked at whilst i was at Tate modern, when i first saw this piece i didnt know what it was because it was covered with twigs and bushes of leaves was coming out of the image. Then i noticed a man holding his arm up behind the twigs, i made a quick sketch and wrote down the caption. It was suppose to be a chinese man having a freedom of speech, this piece also reminded me of the chinese president it is because of the way hes standing and looking for pride.

What is Marketing - 4th November

Last tuesday, i and the creative media class attended a marketing event in Southwark townhall. We participated with the marketing team and tried to contribute in class. In general, i thought it was boring, i wasnt really inspired or interested with the whole marketing unit. The presentation from the beginning made me felt lost. I was confused from the start, i didnt understand the lady that was presenting the powerpoint because of her "formal talk, accent and also bad presentational skills." Whats more suprising is that they pick us to answer questions we dont understand and they even picked me first -.-" I then felt i was part of the team when we had to do pratical work and how to organise events. - And to be creative. but overall, it was really boring, some of the words they use is to hard to understand. and towards the end, i understand abit of the marketing but not alot

- I enjoyed the food :)
